Mwagusi Safari Camp is a beautiful rustic lodge set on the banks of the Mwagusi River in the heart of the Ruaha National Park.

There are 13 luxurious private and well spaced tented bandas set under makuti roofs.  Each has large permanent en-suite facilities constructed using local materials and consisting of flushing toilet, washbasin and walk in shower.  Each banda has a comfortable seating area, using locally crafted materials, and overlooking the river for game viewing without effort, or just to relax.

A large bar/lounge/dining area built in a rustic style is at the heart of Mwagusi Safari Lodge and is a lovely place to relax and sip a long cool drink in the heat of the day.  Dinner is often eaten dinner party style, outside under the stars.  Meals are mainly buffet style and offer a tempting array of expertly prepared dishes.

This exclusive lodge specialises in offering guests the very best game viewing.  On offer are full and half day game drives in open sided 4x4 safari vehicles with well padded comfortable seats, making your game viewing experience even more pleasurable. [cont.]

Walking safaris lasting 3-4 hours and accompanied by a National Parks ranger can also be arranged, as well as less strenuous walks in the area of the camp lasting an hour or so.

That the guiding here is so excellent is mainly due to the high standards expected by Mwagusi’s owner/host Chris Fox, himself a qualified and experienced guide.  Nothing is too much trouble for these knowledgeable guides and they will do their utmost, from the time you leave on your game drive until you return, to track and find the animals you wish to see.

TanzaniaAway:

To be truthful, Tanzania is not as renowned for the quality of its guiding as is, for example, Zambia. But Mwagusi is very much the exception that proves the rule - it simply couldn't be improved upon - one of the best camps in Africa.

We remember:

Parked, during a game drive, seeing a lioness using two other safari vehicles for cover (unsuspected by their occupants) while sneaking up on a young buffalo – only to be chased off by the rest of the herd.

Guest Comments:

Mwagusi wowed me on every level. The location was beautiful, and the view surrounding the Bandas (rooms!) was stunning.

We were really impressed by the standard of guiding and by the fact that safari vehicles had a driver as well as a guide, so the guide really had time and space to do their job properly.

I can't think of a way that our stay at Mwagusi could have been better!!

The staff are great, especially the guides. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed being there. Can't wait to go back!
